My name is Stephen Escobar, and I am running for Mayor for the City of Gaithersburg. One of the most diverse cities in the country. Even though I am not a career politician, I am no stranger to public service. As a soldier in the Maryland Army National, serving my community and the welfare of its citizens is always my first priority. Loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage are the 7 Army Values for which I live by and defend. I am not asking for any donations in this time of hardship, what I will ask is for your support. When I am elected, the mayor’s salary will be reinvested in our city to serve the people.
As a son of immigrants I understand the challenges that come as a minority. My family immigrated from El Salvador back in the 1980’s. I witnessed firsthand the struggles and challenges my family faced to provide me a better life. As a result I developed a strong work ethic.
Born and raised in Gaithersburg I graduated from Magruder High School in 2011. I then enlisted in the Maryland Army National Guard, during my 11 years I have been called on to assist multiple State of Emergencies, to list a few Hurricane Sandy (2012), Baltimore Riot (2015), Blizzard (2016), Pandemic (2020), & Capitol Hill (2021). In these few occasions, I have been proud to serve for something bigger than myself. My passion for public service motivated my drive to help the city through a political path. Which is why my family and I decided to continue to live in the City of Gaithersburg. This decision allowed my daughter to have access to a school that has a special needs program. In addition, my daughters and I love how many activities the city has to offer, especially mini golf in Bohrer Park. I am also serving as the elected President of the Bennington Community Association, a townhouse community of about 1000 residents. I want to continue to serve my community through a new career, as Mayor of the City of Gaithersburg.
